Sutra Institute of Fine Arts

Samata has always believed that art plays a major role in molding a child's intellect.
This belief was confirmed when her daughter Vimala received a scholarship to study at
the prestigious Raffles Girls School in Singapore.
Vimala was thirteen years old when she appeared at the interview that would seal the decision.
The interview was twenty minutes long - fifteen of which were taken up by the interviewers'
interest in Vimala's Kuchipudi lessons. When asked why she liked learning Kuchipudi, Vimala
responded "Dance makes me feel beautiful. When I'm portraying a Goddess, retelling a story
from Hindu mythology or performing a complicated routine, dance makes me feel alive and connected
to my culture."
While encouraging her children and nieces to learn Kuchipudi, painting, drawing and music,
Samata met excellent teachers who were gems in their respective fields. Seeing the impact,
they had in her children's lives, Samata decided to create a platform to increase their reach
so that other children can also benefit.
Thus, Sutra Institute of Fine Arts, a non-profit organization, was born. This is the first step in
Samata's journey to create a platform for Indian artists to thrive and pass on their talents.
At Sutra, we have the formula to enrich your mind, body and soul and create balance in your life.
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
